Simple Ways To Stay Safe and Fight Coronavirus A few precautionary measures are best to combat the COVID-19 contagion

Precaution is always better than any cure. The Coronavirus epidemic has shown how some people can be so utterly stupid and irresponsible, flagrantly disregarding simple common sense. The COVID-19 virus is highly contagious and what’s worse it is much more potent than normal viruses.

According to reports Coronavirus can travel much farther than the official ‘safe distance’ and stay in the air for 30 minutes. What’s worse it can settle on surfaces like glass, fabric, metal, plastic or paper. And depending on the temperature can remain potent for up to two to three days.

Precautionary measures are the best way to tackle Coronavirus

That’s really alarming. So how does one protect oneself? One cannot totally self-isolate forever.

Following a few precautions and boosting your immune system is the best way to tackle Coronavirus.

1) Wash Your Hands

Mom always told you to wash your hands before you ate. Now during this Coronavirus epidemic washing one’s hands when one has returned from outside is imperative.

Washing your hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand rub kills viruses that may be on your hands. Moreover, hands touch many surfaces and can pick up viruses. Once contaminated, hands can transfer the virus to your eyes, nose or mouth. From there, the virus can enter your body and can make you sick.

Better still take a shower once you return home. Please don’t touch food items or your kids when one has not yet washed up.

2) Salt Solution

A warm salt water gargle has always been my go-to whenever I had any kind of throat infection. Along with a round of Jal-Neti ( putting warm salt water through your nostrils) within a day or two, the infection has disappeared.

According to studies, saltwater gargles can help alleviate throat inflammation caused by seasonal allergies, colds, and sinus infections. How effective it is in halting the Coronavirus is has not been ascertained yet. But then there’s no harm in trying.

Additionally,  the simple mixture can also prevent an infection from striking twice. The osmosis effect that helps your throat is also effective at drawing out harmful pathogens on your gum tissues and creating a salt barrier that helps prevent their return.

However, don’t overdo – too much salt can dry out the mouth and throat membranes.

3) White Vinegar Does Disinfect

I have always used white vinegar for house cleaning and also cleaning household equipment. First it’safe, particularly if you have little kids who tend to put things in their mouths. White vinegar can inhibit the growth of and kill some food-borne pathogenic bacteria.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) does not list white vinegar as an effective household disinfectant.

However, white vinegar does kill some type of germs though. And it is a safe alternative for wiping that recently delivered pizza box just in case. You definitely cannot use a commercial disinfectant for food boxes or items your child is likely to put in his mouth.

4) Turmeric + Ginger Healing Combo

Both turmeric and ginger have some great healing properties.

In India, turmeric has always been one of the go-to remedies for many illnesses. Turmeric’s healing effects go beyond the mind. It helps fight infection, kill bacteria and viruses, it is the first-aid for any wounds and swelling

Curcumin is the main active ingredient in turmeric helps in boosting up the immunity and helps to fight against viral replication.

Gingerol, the bioactive substance in fresh ginger, can help lower the risk of infections.

I have ginger + turmeric tea every morning and I believe it has totally cut my doctor visits.

5) Magical Onions and Garlic

Since ancient times garlic and onion have been attributed to having magical curative properties.

Research has proven that indeed onion and garlic are very effective in fighting infection. Both garlic and onions are rich sources of organosulfur compounds. Organosulfur compounds like quercetin and allicin are associated with inhibition of viral infection.  Furthermore, flavonoids present in onion and garlic have a strong inhibitory effect on virus multiplication.

I don’t know how effective the recent hype of keeping sliced raw onions in a room as a “magnet for infectious bodies” is.  Nonetheless, I have personally experienced onion clearing out my son’s ear infection.

6) Raise The Temperature

The “virus is highly sensitive to high temperatures, that’s why people in colder areas may be more susceptible to Coronavirus. Further, recent reports have proved that air-conditioning could spread Coronavirus. Of course, this really applies to central air-conditioning in malls, offices and other public spaces.

Home air-conditioning may not be a risk factor. But then its better to be safe than sorry. Bear the heat and diminish the risk of infection.

Better still, sit in the sun and increase your vitamin D levels. Sunlight is the best and natural way to help your body produce vitamin D which is critical for building your immunity.

7) Healthy Food Builds Immunity

The most sensible way to stay healthy and stave off infection is by eating healthy foods. Though no food or supplement can  100% protect you from catching a virus like a Coronavirus. However, eating immunity boosting foods can boost your immune system, your first line of defense against infection.

When microscopic bacteria or viruses enter your body and multiply; your body acts as a “host”. When your immune system notices these invading germs, it releases antibodies to try to fight them off,  A weak immune system is unable to fight off these intruders.

At this time do avoid highly processed foods they only further damage your immune system. Opt for citrus fruits, green veggies, nuts, lean protein and of regular intake of psychobiotics – they help keep the gut in optimum working condition.
